Getting started

This section explains how to enter information, review your results, and save or share your carbon footprint.

Starting Page

When you open the calculator, you will first see the starting page.
  • Tick the box to confirm that you agree to the Privacy Notice.
  • You may optionally enter an email address if you wish to resume your calculation later on the same device and browser.
  • You can proceed anonymously without entering an email address.
  • Click Start Carbon Calculator to continue.

Adding activities and data

From the main calculator screen:
  • Select a category card (for example, Electricity, Transport, or Flights).
  • Click Add to enter a new activity.
  • Fill in the requested information, such as energy use, distance travelled, or number of trips.
For guidance, an average or benchmark value is provided for each category. If you are unsure about a value, you can make a reasonable estimate and adjust it later.You can:
  • Add multiple entries within the same category if needed
  • Use Edit or Remove to correct or update an entry at any time

Carbon basket and summary

Your carbon basket, shown on the right-hand side of the screen, updates automatically as you add or change information. It:
  • Shows your total estimated annual emissions
  • Breaks down emissions by activity category
  • Displays the percentage contribution of each category
In the full summary view, you can also compare your annual carbon footprint with:
  • The global average
  • The Irish average
This helps put your results into context.

Emailing your report

From the full summary page, you can choose to save and email your carbon basket to your email address. This allows you to keep a record of your results or review them later.
