Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official or government calculator?
No. EcoFootprint is an independent, educational tool. It is not an official government calculator and should not be used for regulatory, compliance, or formal reporting purposes.

How accurate are the results?
The results are indicative estimates, based on internationally recognised emission factors and standard assumptions. They are intended to show relative contributions and approximate magnitudes, not exact values.

Why might my results differ from other calculators?
Differences can arise due to:

Different emission factors

Different system boundaries

Different assumptions about behaviour and supply chains
All carbon footprint calculators involve assumptions and simplifications.

Can I use this for carbon reporting or certification?
No. EcoFootprint is designed for awareness, learning, and household-level understanding. It does not replace professional carbon accounting or certified reporting tools.

Do I need to enter personal information?
No. You can use the calculator anonymously. An email address is optional and only required if you wish to save and resume your calculation later.

Is my data stored or shared?
Calculator inputs are used only to generate results. Any stored data is handled in line with GDPR principles. Data is not sold or shared with third parties.

Is this tool specific to Ireland?
The calculator is designed with Emission factors of Ireland, but it uses internationally recognised methods that are broadly applicable.

Will the calculator be updated?
Yes. Emission factors, assumptions, and features may be updated over time as new data and best practice become available.
